Recap and homework

This week we sped through a selection of Classical utopias, thinking about how Greek and Roman writers used the idea of utopia in their writings. We also sat on the field, which makes the lesson practically 'pastoral' too.

We're moving on to think about socialist utopias next week, and as preparation I asked you to research how Marx defined the perfect society. The link below might help with this task.

It is important to note that neither Marx nor Engels approved of 'utopias' because they felt that they demanded instant change, which is unrealistic. However, their idea of life once the State has 'withered away' very much uses the language of utopias to describe society.
